AmphoMag
Overview
Amphomag is a universal spill neutralizer and sorbent used to safely adsorb and treat hazardous chemical releases, including acids, bases, and organic liquids.
AmphoMag is droduced by Premier Magnesia, LLC and is a registered trademark owned by Premier Magnesia, LLC,
Amphomag® is packaged in 3 lb. shaker bottles, 50 pound bags and 50 pound totes.
Color Change Indicator
A built in multi-range pH indicator is included. After application, it turns red for acids and blue for bases. As Amphomag® neutralizes the spill, the color gradually changes to yellow or green.
ACIDS
All acids will generate heat when neutralized with Ampho-MagTM. Nitric and Perchloric acids will produce more heat than other acids, which may result in some splattering. In order to reduce the potential for splattering, apply a large excess of Ampho-MagTM and completely cover spill with a thick layer of Ampho- MagTM. When Ampho-MagTM is applied to the acid spill, the pH indicator should turn red. This indicates that the spill is still acidic and more Ampho-MagTM needs to be applied until a yellow/green color indicates neutralization is complete.
ALKALIS
Neutralization of alkalis with Ampho-MagTM will generate little heat. It is unlikely any splattering will occur. When Ampho-MagTM is applied to the alkali the pH indicator should turn blue. This indicates that the spill is still alkaline and more Ampho-MagTM should be applied until a yellow/green color indicates that neutralization is complete.
Solvents and Other Liquids
Ampho-MagTM acts as a sorbent in the case of these liquids and will not render the spill non-hazardous. No adverse reactions with organic solvents are known. If the organic solvent contains appreciable amounts of water, then some heat can be generated. Apply Ampho-MagTM until the spill is dry. Since organic solvents are generally not acidic nor alkaline, the pH indicator is non-functional under these circumstances.
Precautions
Ampho-MagTM will generate heat during a neutralization reaction, especially with acids.
Do not apply to a spill in a confined space such as a drum or pail.
